The Caring About Nutrition Club, CAN, was started at Raymore Elementary through their PTA in December 2012. Since then the program has grown throughout the Raymore Peculiar school district and in 2016 came under a new program, Ray-Pec Cares.
A state registered prevention coalition and an outreach of the Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation, Ray-Pec Cares strives to provide a system of care for the students and families of the Raymore-Peculiar School District by meeting physical, emotional and social needs that allow our students and families to live successful and meaningful lives.
CAN serves all K-5 buildings except Peculiar Elementary. (Peculiar is served by Harvester's BackSnack program.) CAN also maintains separate small pantries for students at Ray-Pec East and South Middle Schools and Ray-Pec High School. Our full pantry is located in the Academy Building. In the most recent school year we served 164 students and was supported by over 50 regular volunteers.
Jodie Huston at the foundation continues to work on grant opportunities, but CAN continues to rely primarily on community donations. Our volunteers continue to be amazed by the outpouring of support from our individual and community partners. If you can help, check the Links page for donation and volunteer opportunities!
